Work since December 2016
The pouring of the basement floors, walls and pillars over the last few months means that the footprint of the basement is now visible, giving you an idea of where the library and the film studio will be. During the May holiday the floor was laid for the ground floor of the building. Work currently underway also includes sampling: a sample room has been set up in the site hut on the building site where samples of all the building components can be examined, from the colour of the concrete to the light switches. Paulien Bremmer and her team examine all the samples presented in the light of their design vision, before approving or rejecting them.
Coming work
The new handover date has been set for December 2017. At that time the building will be completed, but it will not yet be in use. To cause as little disruption as possible to the education, the major removal work will take place in the holiday periods after December 2017. For example, the Wood Workshop, the CadCam Workshop and the Library are planned to move in to the new building during the Christmas holiday or the 2018 spring holiday. During the 2018 summer holiday, the last internal relocations and moves to the new building will take place, so that by September 2018 the building will be fully in use. Among other things this means that during the summer of 2018, the Sandberg Instituut will move to its new location on the first floor of the new building. Therefore, after the 2018 summer holiday, all parts of the academy will be located on one site.
Bridge to the Benthem Crouwel Building
During the May holiday the initial preparatory work took place for the bridge that will connect the first floor of the new building to the third floor of the Benthem Crouwel Building. A hole was made in the wall of the third floor of the BC Building to determine the exact measurements of the bridge. This measurement meant a start could be made on the production of the bridge, which will be installed during the coming summer holiday. The preparatory work was planned in the May holiday to avoid any disruption to the education.
